
Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome & Principe
Raghu Gururaj assumed charge as India’s first Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Sao Tome & Principe in 2021. He has served in several capacities both at headquarters and overseas. His diplomatic assignments so far include postings at Yemen, Singapore, Switzerland, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Indonesia. In addition, he has visited more than 30 countries on short term official assignments through out his career.
Prior to assuming charge as Ambassador of India to Republic of Sao Tome & Principe, Mr. Gururaj was the Consul General of India to Sumatra, Indonesia, resident in Medan between May 2019 till July 2021.
At the Ministry, he has served in Protocol, External publicity division, Administration, Regional Passport Office, Bangalore and the Northern Division, dealing with Bhutan.
Mr. Gururaj graduated with a Masters in Political Science and Economics. He possesses a diploma in journalism.
Languages known: English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and basic Spanish and Russian.
A keen follower of sports and international affairs, he is an avid reader and writing is his passion.
